Court Preliminarily Approves $48 Million Settlement in Reformulated Gasoline Suit
On August 14, 2008, Judge Christina A. Snyder of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California gave preliminary approval to a $48 million settlement between Union Oil Company and Unocal Corporation ("Unocal" or the "Company") and a class of California purchasers to settle claims that in the early 1990s Unocal unlawfully manipulated the California gas market for summertime reformulated gasoline ("RFG"), resulting in higher prices.
